Starlink in the sky: airline rollouts, FAA approvals, and what travelers actually get

Throughout 2024–2025 a wave of airlines signed deals to install Starlink on board — and regulators in several countries (including FAA approvals for specific aircraft types) have started to clear commercial operations. United, Qatar, Hawaiian and others have public deployments or scheduled rollouts; tests report multi-hundred Mbps speeds at cruising altitude on some routes, enabling streaming and videoconferencing in flight. But users should be realistic: performance varies by route, aircraft antenna installation, and satellite handover windows.
