Starlink Mini vs. Geostationary Satellites: Why Portability Wins

Traditional satellite internet systems rely on geostationary satellites (GEO) located about 36,000 km above Earth, resulting in high latency (often over 600 ms) and reduced performance for real-time applications. In contrast, Starlink Mini uses LEO satellites at around 550 km, bringing latency down to 20–40 ms.

Multiple studies confirm the benefit: Starlink Mini delivers browsing and video call speeds comparable to terrestrial networks with much smoother performance.

Its compact, laptop-sized design also enhances mobility—ideal for RVs, boats, field work, and digital nomad setups. Whereas traditional GEO satellite dishes are bulky, Starlink Mini offers portability without sacrificing functionality.
