Why Orbit Altitude Matters: Starlink Mini’s Low-Latency Advantage

Starlink Mini connects via LEO satellites orbiting at approximately 540–570 km, much closer to Earth compared to geostationary satellites (about 36,000 km). This proximity slashes latency to 20–40 ms, making real-time applications like gaming and video calls feasible.

The constellation uses phased-array antennas and laser inter-satellite links (ISLs), allowing efficient handoff between satellites and reducing reliance on ground stations. ISLs enable data to hop across satellites directly, improving bandwidth and lowering latency further.
